AFCO Distribution & Milling is a division of Skagit Farmers Supply, a diversified agricultural supply cooperative. Skagit Farmers Supply, based in Burlington, WA, has been in business since 1934, and continues to grow and adapt to meet the needs of the farmers, homeowners, businesses, families, and communities in the Pacific Northwest. The company operates Agronomy, Propane, Refined Fuels and Wholesale divisions as well as ten retail Country Store locations in Washington & Montana. AFCO serves over 800 retail customers. The company distributes products such as animal feed, wildlife products, pet food and supplies, fencing and livestock equipment. Customers receive weekly orders within routed territories. Delivery is provided by AFCO’s fleet of company trucks.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Hire, onboard, train, supervise, motivate and coach a team of commercial drivers.
• Analyze routes and other logistical information. Schedule and dispatch drivers accordingly.
• Anticipate and troubleshoot issues with deliveries and devise cost-effective solutions.
• Conduct monthly meetings. Routinely audit driver practices and hours of service logs.
• Investigate accidents and incidents. Identify causes and take appropriate preventative action.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and local law.
• Maintain accurate records of transportation activities, including driver logs, vehicle maintenance records, and fuel usage.
• Oversee compliance and maintenance with licensing, insurance, drug testing and driver qualification files.
• Review Driver-Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR’s). Coordinate the maintenance or repair of mechanical issues.
• Analyze truck telematics systems and run reports.
• Coordinate and maximize backhaul revenue opportunities.
• Work with the sales team to grow distribution channels and market share.
• Safely operate vehicles, forklifts, pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment.
• Assist with the development and implementation of safety programs.
• Exhibit an ability to receive feedback, adapt to new processes and continuously develop skills.
• Demonstrate the ability to collaborate, communicate well and effectively relay information with an emphasis on developing positive professional relationships.
• Practice punctual and reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet management subject to FMCSA regulations with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Experience preparing, tracking, and analyzing shipments.
• Physical ability to lift, carry, push, pull and load up to 60 pounds.
• Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office
• Demonstrate strong organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Proven track record of being dependable and reliable.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Pass pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• College degree in logistics, supply chain management, or related field.
• Possess a valid Class A CDL and maintain a safe driving record.
• Knowledge of PNW regional routing and customer service practices.
• Knowledge of supply chain management and warehouse procedures.
• Experience in budget management and vendor negotiations.
SCHEDULE
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position, in-person position. Typically, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This position may require some after-hour calls from the transportation and operation staff. Must be available to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
