Transportation Supervisor

Spokane Valley, WA

 AFCO Distribution & Milling is a division of Skagit Farmers Supply, a diversified agricultural supply cooperative. We were founded in Burlington, WA in 1934 and continue to grow and adapt to meet the needs of the farmers, homeowners, businesses, families, and communities in the Pacific Northwest. The company operates Agronomy, Propane, Refined Fuels and Wholesale divisions as well as retail Country Store locations in Washington and Montana. AFCO Distribution & Milling serves over 800 retail customers in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. We transport and distribute products including but not limited to animal feed, wildlife products, pet food and supplies, fencing and livestock equipment. Customers receive weekly orders within routed territories. Delivery is provided by our fleet of company trucks form our distribution center warehouses. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES 

• Hire, onboard, train, supervise, motivate and coach a team of interstate commercial drivers. 

• Conduct performance and wage reviews. 

• Analyze routes and other logistical information. Schedule and dispatch drivers accordingly. 

• Anticipate and troubleshoot issues with deliveries and devise cost-effective solutions. 

• Conduct monthly meetings. Routinely audit driver practices and hours of service logs. 

• Participate in ride-alongs with drivers. 

• Collaborate with others to investigate accidents. Identify causes and take appropriate preventative action. 

• Identify other areas of deficit or concern within the department. 

• Assist drivers with arranging tow trucks and scheduling repairs. 

• Maintain and promote the safe operations of the department. 

• Comply with all laws, including those set forth by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. 

• Maintain accurate records of transportation activities, including driver logs, vehicle maintenance records, and fuel usage. 

• Oversee compliance and maintenance with licensing, insurance, drug testing and driver qualification files. 

• Review Driver-Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR’s). Coordinate the maintenance or repair of mechanical issues. Maintain fleet safety and cleanliness. 

• Review truck GPS systems and run reports (harsh driving, speeding, daily movement, distance traveled and cost analysis). 

• Coordinate and maximize backhaul revenue opportunities. 

• Work with sales team to grow distribution channels and market share. 

• Safely operate vehicles, forklifts, pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment. 

• Demonstrate a commitment to excellence and high standards especially in terms of providing outstanding service. 

• Exhibit an ability to collaborate and get along with others. 

• Practice punctual and reliable attendance. 

• Perform other duties as assigned. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

• High school diploma or equivalent. 

• 2+ years’ experience supervising others. 

• Pass pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment. 

• Possess a valid driver license and maintain a safe driving record. 

• Physical ability to stand for extended periods; bend, stoop and kneel frequently. 

• Lift, carry, push, pull and load up to 60 pounds. 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with staff, and customers. 

• Strong organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and analytical skills with an emphasis on calculating figures and amounts. 

• Proven track record of being dependable and reliable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Possess a valid Class A CDL and maintain a safe driving record. 

• College degree in logistics or related field. 

• Knowledge of local, state and federal laws, especially those pertaining to transportation under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Dept. of Transportation. 

• Experience working in logistics, transportation and/or the dispatching of commercial vehicles. 

• Experience safely operating pallet jacks, forklifts, etc. 

SCHEDULE 

This is a full time, 40 hours per week position (schedule will vary). Typically, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This position requires some after hour calls from the transportation and operation staff. Must be available to work evenings and/or weekends as needed. 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS 

$28.00 – $32.00/hour. After meeting eligibility requirements, benefits include:
